midnight & indigo, a literary journal celebrating Black women writers, has issued a call for submissions to review short stories and narrative essays. We publish content on our digital platform and in our literary journals (paperback/ebook/audiobook). In 2024, we will publish our first long-form anthology!
Writers are invited to share their original, fictional, or personal stories. Stories can funny, entertaining, serious, or sincere. Stories must be character-driven and leave readers with something to think about. All genres are welcome!

WE’RE LOOKING FOR ONLINE WRITING INSTRUCTORS
Are you a Black writer, editor, teacher, or aspiring contributor with a knack for instruction and storytelling? If that’s you, we’d love to hear from you.
We launched our Writing Program in 2022, focused on offering writing, craft, genre-based, and workshopping classes to writers of all experience levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced). Our instructors have a wide range of teaching, writing, and experience levels — we encourage you to apply, even if you are new to or are looking for teaching experience. We recommend reviewing our published works at midnightandindigo.com for a sense of our content and the writer population we serve.
midnight & indigo is seeking applicants to the remote, volunteer positions of Fiction Editor and Non-Fiction Editor. Ideal candidates will align with our mission of making a meaningful contribution to the rich Black literary tradition while providing a platform to elevate our voices. Previous editing experience is valuable, but we will consider candidates with relevant experience or education.
The Fiction Editor(s) will be committed to growing our base of literary fiction readers by soliciting, reading, editing, and pitching short stories by Black women writers for publication on our digital and print platforms. Each editor will represent midnight & indigo in literary spaces and seek to increase our pool of submissions for each reading period. Interested applicants should apply via Google form.
The Non-fiction Editor(s) will be committed to growing our base of non-fiction readers by soliciting, reading, editing, and pitching essays by Black women writers for publication on our digital and print platforms. Each editor will represent midnight & indigo in literary spaces and seek to increase our pool of submissions for each reading period. Interested applicants should apply via Google form.
Each position requires approximately 3-5 hours per week with a six-month commitment.
